Saturday, a retrospective
Saturday was the “drive to Virginia” day. Since this is probably my last trip down here, I wanted to include last visits to brewpubs that I’ve found along the route. The plan for the drive down was to go through Lancaster, PA and hit up Lancaster Brewing Company, which I had been to on one other trip. This seemed like an easy plan. It wasn’t!
The GPS routed me down I-91 to the Wilbur Cross Parkway, a perfectly reasonable route which I’ve taken many times before. It normally takes 40 minutes or so to get to the Parkways from my house. Yesterday took 70 because of an accident near Meriden on I-91 which could not be avoided. Ugh.
While I didn’t run into any more accidents that morning, I did have sporadic construction zones pop up with associated lane closures. Traffic was heavy as well, so the whole trip to Lancaster was much longer than planned. Top it all off with a detour which was not well marked (and which the GPS did NOT like), and it was close to 1:15 when I parked for lunch.
The beer was great (a Hefeweizen and their Milk Stout), the food was so-so, and the service was absolutely TERRIBLE. I’m sorry I went out of my way to stop there. And to add insult to injury, the GPS decided to punish me as well – it left me going in circles trying to find my way out of Lancaster and back to a recognizable highway while it took close to a half hour calculating a route! After resetting it twice, it finally got back in the game.
It was a long day’s drive, but I made it and was very happy to relax in the hotel room all evening 🙂
