This is a low-quality version of a photo I’ve been restoring. My dad took it sometime between 1943 and 1946 from in front of Grand Central Station in NYC, looking east down 42nd Street. The elevated structure crossing 42nd in the distance is the old Third Avenue El, and the big building that’s barely visible in the distance on the right side of 42nd is the Daily News building.
Nice, eh?
It was fun tracking down dates based on what’s in the picture. For example, the trolley line you see here converted to bus service in November of 1946, and there’s a Schaefer Beer billboard in the distance which uses an image which, as far as I can tell, was introduced in March of 1943 for an advertising campaign.
